MIKI & CO., LTD. traces its origins back to the year of 1674, when the Miki family's ancestors began trading in natural indigo in Nakakiraiura (location of the current registered office) in Awanokuni (current Tokushima Prefecture). Trading outlets subsequently opened in Banshu-Himeji and Awaji-Sumoto carried on the family business for generations before a store was opened in Nihonbashi in Edo (location of the current headquarters) in 1789.

The scale of operations was further expanded in April 1918, when Miki Shoten Co., Ltd. was established with a capitalization of 1 million yen, assumed the business of the Miki Yokichiro Company and the Company's name was changed to the current MIKI & CO., LTD.

In the meantime, in addition to enhancing sales in Japan by setting up stores in Nagoya and Kyoto as adjuncts to those in Osaka and Tokyo, the Company established stores and branches in key areas in China and Southeast Asia, undertaking the sale and supply of goods produced in Japan and locally overseas. Adding to those mentioned above, branches were set up after the war in Sapporo, Ueda, Suwa, Ashikaga, Fuji, Hamamatsu, Fukui, Kanazawa, Tokushima, Fukuyama, Hiroshima and Fukuoka. Thus the Company celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1968, and 330 years of existence in 2004.

Overseas, the Company has developed business on the global stage by establishing MIKI SANGYO (USA) INC. in New York in February 1973 (relocating to New Jersey in 1996); MIKI (EUROPE) GmbH in Düsseldorf, Germany, in October 1980; MIKI (THAILAND) LTD. in Bangkok in February 1988; MIKI (SHANGHAI) CO., LTD. in China in March 2003; and PT. MIKI INDONESIA in Jakarta in March 2013.
