The company started its journey since 1990 under the name PT Summit Sinar Mas Finance. Sumitomo Corporation, which is one of the Sogo Sosha general trading companies in Japan, was one of the Shareholders when the Company was founded, and was the Company's largest Shareholder. At its inception, the Company's business activities namely leasing, venture capital, factoring, credit cards and consumer financing. This was stated in the Decree of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1601 / KMK.013 / 1990 dated December 28, 1990.

In 2003, the Company changed its name from PT Summit Sinar Mas Finance to PT Summit Oto Finance based on Deed of Meeting No. 113 dated April 16, 2003, which was made before Sutjipto, SH, Notary in Jakarta, and was approved by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia based on his Decree No. C-09371.HT.01.04.TH-2003 dated April 29, 2003 which was then followed by an amendment to the decision of the Minister of Finance Number 1601 / KMK.013 / 1990 dated December 28, 1990 concerning the Granting of a Financing Institution Business License to PT Summit Sinar Mas Finance through Decree of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Number KEP-243 / KM.6 / 2003 dated June 30, 2003.
